Consultation

All our consultations are by appointment so your cat should be seen within a few moments of arrival – minimising stress. At The Cat Hospital there are no dogs barking, no smells of other animals and staff genuinely love cats and are experienced in handling them.

The consultation time allocated to each animal is more than twice as long as a typical practice. Each cat is given as much time as necessary to relax in the large consulting room where diffusers release pheromones to give a sense of familiarity.

If you suspect the cat is ill in some way you can help us help your pet. If you notice something different about your cat at home for example a limp, coughing, sneezing or anything at all – take a video to show us at the consultation.

First time clients will be asked to register with the hospital.

Consultation fee is €49.50 incl. VAT

Kitten Vaccination Program

Kittens can start their vaccination program at 8 to 10 weeks of age. The course involves two visits to the vet three weeks apart. These two visits are a great opportunity to discuss your kitten’s health and general care with the vet and the nurses at the Hospital.  You will learn lots of things about your new companion that will help you to enjoy your new kitten even more!

The Cat Hospital encourages all owners to vaccinate their cats. This is one of the most important actions an owner can take to protect the long-term health of their beloved cat. You can protect your cat against many fatal diseases. All cats should be vaccinated according to their specific needs and risk factors.

Ideally, owners should book their pets in to be neutered as soon as their vaccination course is completed.

This two-visit program which includes the vaccinations is €104 incl. VAT

Female Cat Neuter/Spay

Having your pet cat neutered is part of responsible pet ownership. The Cat Hospital recommends that all pet cats should be neutered prior to their first heat which can occur as early as 14 weeks of age. So the recommended age for neutering your pet cat has reduced from 6 months to 10-14 weeks of age.

Apart from avoiding unwanted kittens, neutering your pet cat more than doubles its average life expectancy. Diseases such as FIV (feline aids) and FeLV (feline leukaemia) can be transmitted during breeding. Early neutering in female cats also virtually eliminates mammary (breast) cancer in female cats. Preventing this devastating disease in later life is what motivates us to neuter your female cat before she reaches puberty.

Ideally, owners should book their pets in to be neutered as soon as their vaccination course is completed. However in the case of a young female – sometimes the spey operation is the priority…just ask us and we will tell you what you should do.

The procedure involves a full general anaesthetic and one day at the hospital. All our surgical patients come for a check up 3 days after the surgery. Stitches are usually removed 10 days after the surgery is completed.

The cost of neutering a female cat is €95.00 incl. VAT
Costs include the post surgical check ups and pain relief on surgery day. Please also consider microchipping your cat on the day of surgery.

Annual Check-up & Vaccination Review

The Cat Hospital strongly recommends a check-up EVERY year throughout the life of your cat to monitor health. This also provides an opportunity to discuss appropriate vaccination, parasite control and other requirements for your cat’s individual lifestyle, age and health status.  It also gives owners an opportunity to discuss their cat’s behaviour with the vet.

The Cat Hospital encourages all owners to vaccinate their cats. This is one of the most important actions an owner can take to protect the long-term health of their beloved cat.  Your cat’s vaccination program will be tailored to its individual lifestyle and risk factors.

The standard vaccination protocol in The Cat Hospital includes protection against Feline Leukaemia. Feline leukaemia appears to be widespread in the Cork area and we have seen many cats die as a result of this fatal (and preventable) disease since we opened in April 2009.

If you have any concerns about vaccinations or questions about what is best for your cat, please discuss this with the nurse or vet.

Annual check up including appropriate vaccination is €66 incl. VAT

Pet Passports

If you wish to bring your cat outside of Ireland you need a Pet Passport.

You will also need to have your cat vaccinated against rabies before travel. This will protect against rabies in affected areas and ensure your cat will not need to be quarantined on the return journey. All rabies vaccinations must be written down in your cat’s passport.

Pet passports are available from your vet and can be completed while you wait. In order to obtain a passport your cat must be microchipped by a vet. If necessary we can microchip your cat for an additional cost of €15 on the same visit.

A Pet Passport is €180 incl. VAT
Costs include Passport and a rabies vaccination.

Male Cat Neuter

Having your pet cat neutered is part of responsible pet ownership. The Cat Hospital recommends that all pet cats should be neutered prior to puberty which occurs at 6-7 months of age in a male cat. The recommended age for neutering your pet cat has reduced from 6 months to 10-14 weeks of age.

Neutering your pet cat more than doubles its average life expectancy. Diseases such as FIV (feline aids) and FeLV (feline leukaemia) can be transmitted during breeding. Male cats should be neutered because otherwise they may wander and fight during the breeding season and are at risk injury and road traffic accidents when they try to establish and protect their territory.

Ideally, owners should book their pets in to be neutered as soon as their vaccination course is completed.

The procedure involves a full general anaesthetic and one day at the hospital. All our surgical patients come for a check up 3 days after the surgery. Stitches are usually removed 10 days after the surgery is completed.

The cost of neutering a male cat is €75.00 incl. VAT
Costs include the post surgical check ups and pain relief on surgery day. Please also consider microchipping your cat on the day of surgery.
